The Illegitimate Rule of the Taliban Poses Security Threats to the Region and the World

RASC News Agency: On the third anniversary of the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, the Association of Diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has issued a statement warning that the continued illegitimate control of the country by the Taliban will have profound security implications for both the region and the world. The statement, released on Thursday, August 15, asserts that Afghanistan has been plunged into a deep social, political, security, and economic crisis as a result of three years of “illegitimate rule by the Taliban.”

The Association of Diplomats of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan cautions that if this situation persists, it will lead to irreversible human and social crises within the country. The statement further declares, “The Taliban have inflicted an unprecedented historical catastrophe upon the people of Afghanistan.” It also condemns the restrictions imposed on women and girls by the Taliban as “inhumane and un-Islamic.”

Moreover, the Association notes, “There is no rule of law in the country. Taliban prisons are filled with former security personnel, human rights defenders, and female activists. In the absence of a legitimate government, Afghanistan has become a sanctuary for terrorist groups.” This warning aligns with earlier statements from women’s protest movements and anti-Taliban military fronts, which have also condemned the Taliban’s rule as illegitimate and emphasized the need for continued resistance against the regime.

It is worth noting that three years have passed since the Taliban seized power, during which time many significant achievements, particularly in the areas of media and women’s rights, have been undone, and increasing restrictions have been imposed on the Afghanistani people.
