RASC News Agency: In response to World Press Freedom Day, the Afghanistan Freedom Front stated that the Taliban do not acknowledge access to information as a human right and have coerced journalists to leave their profession through threats, imprisonment, and coercion. In a statement released by the front on Friday, May 3, the front noted that the Taliban have imposed intolerable restrictions on the country’s media.
The statement said: “The Taliban regime has transformed domestic media into propaganda tools for terrorism and extremism over the past two and a half years.” According to the Freedom Front, this approach by the Taliban has facilitated the spread of extremism and increased the recruitment of terrorist groups among the country’s youth. Similarly, an organization known as the Center for Freedom and Development stated that Afghanistan media under Taliban rule have faced potential extinction since the group’s return to power.
According to the center, the lack of access to information and the Taliban’s lack of accountability have made news dissemination in Afghanistan increasingly challenging. Yesterday, May 3, marked World Press Freedom Day, which arrived in Afghanistan amid censorship and restrictions on media, and the torture and detention of journalists by the Taliban.
