RASC News Agency: Former President Hamed Karzai once again emphasized the necessity of reopening schools and universities to girls during a meeting with Takayoshi Kuromiya, Japan’s ambassador to Kabul. As reported by Tolo News on Sunday, Feb 25, Karzai addressed this issue through a message on his social media platform.
In the meeting, he urged Japan to maintain its collaboration in education, archaeology, agriculture, and healthcare with Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Despite more than two years having passed since the Taliban took control, Japan, like other nations, has not formally recognized the group but maintains relatively positive relations with the Taliban.
It is noteworthy that former President Hamed Karzai has consistently advocated for the reopening of schools and universities to girls, urging the Taliban to revoke the ban on girls’ education. Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration recently reported that nearly 100,000 female students enrolled in both public and private universities in Afghanistan are unable to continue their education.
According to the International Organization for Migration report, concerning the repercussions of banning girls’ education in Afghanistan, it states: “Afghanistan under Taliban rule is the only country in the world that has prohibited girls from accessing education.”
