RASC News Agency: Local officials of the Taliban group in Bamyan province have announced that their forces have lashed two individuals in the province.
According to a statement issued by the Taliban court in Bamyan province on Saturday, October 21, more than two individuals, including a woman, have been subjected to corporal punishment.
The statement from this court states that these two individuals were convicted of engaging in an extramarital relationship in the Shibar district of Bamyan province and were consequently sentenced to corporal punishment according to the court’s decision. They were publicly lashed as per the sentence.
The Taliban group further states that the implementation of corporal punishment is part of the “Islamic Sharia” and leads to cleansing society from corruption and immorality.
However, it should be noted that the Taliban group has previously carried out public punishments in several provinces of the country, which have received significant backlash from legal institutions and human rights defenders. These entities have condemned this form of punishment and, in some cases, referred to it as “abhorrent.”
It is worth mentioning that according to information, the Taliban group claims that their actions are aimed at cleansing society from immorality and corruption, while members of this group have themselves engaged in immoral acts and corruption in various provinces of the country.
Based on information, it is believed by some experts that the implementation of Islamic Sharia law specifically targeting the general population and excluding the members of this group is not consistent. Meanwhile, reports indicate that in one case, the Taliban group released an individual accused of sexually assaulting two girls.
In light of the above, the implementation of corporal punishment by the Taliban group raises concerns among both local communities and national and international human rights organizations. The contradiction between the group’s stated intentions and its own behavior only serves to undermine its credibility, raising questions about its true motives and commitment to justice and fairness.
