RASC News Agency: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized during the Seventy-Ninth Session of the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee that the current situation in Afghanistan under Taliban rule demands urgent, principled, and unified action from the international community. In a speech published on social media on Wednesday, October 23, Faiq underscored that the Taliban’s oppressive policies are leading Afghanistan further into a multifaceted crisis.
He asserted, “We call upon member states to formally recognize gender apartheid as a crime under international law. It is our shared responsibility to protect the citizens of Afghanistan, especially women, girls, and the marginalized.” The Afghanistani diplomat highlighted the severe human rights, humanitarian, economic, and political crises deepening under the Taliban’s regime. Faiq detailed how Afghanistani women have been systematically erased from all spheres of public life under the Taliban’s rule.
He also pointed to the Taliban’s deliberate replacement of modern educational systems with extremist religious schools, known for promoting radicalization through distorted interpretations of Sharia law. According to Faiq, freedom of speech is also collapsing, with independent media and journalists in Afghanistan silenced through systematic intimidation, threats, and arbitrary detention by the Taliban regime. Faiq stressed that lasting stability in Afghanistan can only be achieved through the establishment of an inclusive, accountable government that respects the rights of all citizens.
His remarks come as the Taliban continue to intensify restrictions on Afghanistani citizens. Previously, Faiq had warned of the escalating humanitarian crisis under the Taliban’s rule at other UN forums, urging for immediate global intervention This version has been elevated with more precise language, advanced structure, and formal media-style presentation.
