Faiq Calls on UN Security Council to Exert Pressure on the Taliban

RASC News Agency: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s representative at the United Nations, has urged the UN Security Council to take decisive action against the Taliban, citing grave and systematic human rights violations perpetrated by the group. Speaking at a Security Council session on Monday, March 10, Faiq emphasized that without accountability and sustained international pressure, the Taliban will continue their repressive rule, further oppressing the Afghanistani people.

Faiq welcomed the International Criminal Court’s investigation into Taliban-led atrocities, calling on the Security Council to endorse and support these efforts. He argued that holding the Taliban accountable could compel them to abandon their oppressive practices. Addressing Security Council members, Faiq stated:

“The Taliban’s actions constitute clear violations of international law, including multiple UN Security Council resolutions. We urge this Council to send a unified and resolute message to the Taliban, demanding an end to their authoritarian rule.”

He also condemned the Taliban’s escalating restrictions on women, describing their actions as “crimes against humanity.” Faiq has consistently denounced the Taliban’s systematic oppression and egregious human rights abuses in Afghanistan. During the Security Council session, representatives from the United States, Russia, China, and Pakistan expressed deep concerns over the rising influence of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan.

Russia and Tajikistan, in particular, have repeatedly warned of cross-border terrorist threats emanating from Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power.
