RASC News Agency: The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of the Taliban has recently announced the signing of a contract with a private company for the cement production project in Zenda Jan, located in Herat Province. Making the announcement on Sunday, October 15, the Taliban officials took to the social media platform ‘X’ to share the news.

According to ministry officials, the contract spans a period of 30 years, with the winning company expected to invest a staggering $142 million into the project. With the signing of this contract, the Taliban officials believe it will provide direct employment opportunities to approximately five thousand individuals.

This development comes amidst reports highlighting the critical economic situation faced by the people of Afghanistan since the Taliban assumed control. Unemployment and poverty levels have skyrocketed, increasing the urgency for economic assistance.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum had recently signed a contract for the “Jabul Siraj” cement production factory project in Parwan Province. The agreement involved three Qatari companies by the names of Aoufi Bahram, Alfalah Al-Alami, and Majmuaat Al-Muham International.”

The Taliban group announced the signing of this agreement at a time when, according to reports, the economic situation of the people in Afghanistan has become extremely critical since their takeover, with unemployment and poverty reaching their highest levels.
It should be noted that the Taliban group had previously announced contracts for 53 mines in 2023 with several domestic and foreign companies.
However, it is believed that the Taliban group has exploited mining for their personal gain and does not pay the necessary attention to the existing economic crises in society.

At the same time, they have referred to the closure of mining contracts with domestic and foreign mixed companies as the plundering of mines and stated that the Taliban group cannot properly monitor the mining extraction process in the country.
