Afghanistani Women’s Resilient Movement: Mullah Onabi’s Remarks Undermine Human Dignity

RASC News Agency: In response to recent statements by Mullah Yaya Onabi, the Afghanistani Women’s Resilient Movement has asserted in a press release that his words not only insult the honor and dignity of women but also challenge the foundational tenets of Islam, humanity, and human dignity. The Afghanistani Women’s Resilient Movement has called upon scholars from the Islamic community to take a stand against the extremist and misogynistic propaganda promoted by such individuals.

According to their statement, these clerics and preachers exploit the teachings of Islam to commit acts that degrade human dignity. Earlier, Mullah Yaya Onabi indirectly referenced Zarmeena Pariani’s arrest and imprisonment by the Taliban in a sermon in Panjshir province, suggesting that “this woman should have been publicly stripped naked at a Kabul intersection to serve as a deterrent to other women seeking freedom.”

In this sermon, Mullah Anabi equated advocacy for freedom with obscenity, likening advocacy for freedom to indecency. Following her release from Taliban custody, Zarmeena Paryani recounted being forcibly stripped naked by Taliban operatives and photographed alongside others. The Afghanistani Women’s Resilient Movement states: “Mullah Onabi’s recent rhetoric in a Panjshir province mosque not only denigrates the honor and dignity of women but also casts doubt upon the core principles of Islam, humanity, and human dignity.”

The movement further emphasizes that women have been unjustly condemned to subservience for years due to uninformed fatwas and directives from certain clerics, depriving them of their basic rights and freedoms without valid justification, subjecting them to daily victimization. In their statement, the movement declares: “As representatives of all Afghanistani women, we vehemently condemn the three-year silence of esteemed scholars and the Islamic community regarding the Taliban’s systematic persecution of women.”

These women also implore religious scholars to uphold the human dignity of women in Afghanistani society. The Afghanistani Women’s Resilient Movement urges religious scholars not to ignore the plight of women in Afghanistan and actively oppose the extremist and misogynistic rhetoric that distorts the teachings of Islam and undermines human dignity.
