RASC News Agency: Reported that at the Moscow format meeting, Russia’s representative on Afghanistan affairs, Zamir Kabulov, said that participants supported the Taliban’s efforts to combat ISIS and drugs, while Tajikistan opposed them.
During a press conference on Wednesday, October 4th, Mr. Kabulov stated that Tajikistan authorities do not see any reason to praise the Taliban. He provided this explanation for Tajikistan’s opposition during the final announcement of the recent Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan.
He added, “Tajikistan asked to be removed from the list of countries that accepted the final statement of the Moscow format, and we agreed.”
Meanwhile, the Moscow format meeting on Afghanistan was held on Friday September 29, with the presence of representatives of ten countries in the city of Kazan, Russia.
Special representatives and senior officials of Tajikistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan attended this meeting. The foreign minister of the Taliban group also participated in this meeting as a guest.
Mr. Kabulov said that the final statement from the summit was made with the backing of nine countries, with the exception of Tajikistan.
Zamir Kabulov stated, “Tajikistan has a different attitude towards the Taliban group and strongly criticizes them.”
Due to the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, border checkpoints between Afghanistan and Tajikistan have been increased. Tajikistan shares a land border with Afghanistan.
