RASC News Agency: The General Directorate of Physical Training and Sports of the Taliban group has stated in response to the Reuters report that the Directorate will not allow any female Afghanistani athlete to participate in the Asian Games in China.
In the report of the Reuters news agency, quoting the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee, which was published earlier, it is stated that 17 Afghanistani female athletes are participating in this competition.
In its report, Reuters, quoting an announcement from the National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan, said that in the Asian Games of China, which are scheduled to be held from the September 23 to the October 8 of 2023, in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Afghanistani female athletes will compete in three disciplines: running, cycling and volleyball.
According to Reuters, an announcement by the National Olympic Committee of Afghanistan, published on Tuesday, September 5, states: “Afghanistan will proudly send the largest number of female athletes to participate in the Asian Games.”
In this announcement, it is also mentioned that by providing three scholarships to Afghanistani female athletes, the way will be paved for their participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Physical training and Sports, which is under the control of the Taliban group, said in an announcement on its website that in the 19th round of the Asian Games in China, 133 athletes from Afghanistan will participate in 17 sports.
However, no woman will be present among them. This is despite the fact that after the Taliban group came to power, sports clubs were closed to women and according to women’s rights activists, the Taliban group is trying to exclude women from social life.
Two years have passed since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, girls were banned from schools and universities, and women were banned from working in government and non-government offices and from public places.
