RASC News Agency: The World Food Program’s recent announcement highlights the urgent need for $400 million to provide food assistance to vulnerable households in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan before the onset of winter. On November 12, the organization posted a message on social media emphasizing the challenges of accessing these areas once heavy snowfall sets in.
According to the World Food Program, there are only a few weeks remaining until the harsh winter weather blocks all roads, making it nearly impossible for people living in the mountainous and snowy regions to receive vital supplies. The arrival of snowfall and extreme cold during the autumn season has already resulted in the closure of transportation routes, severely limiting the communities’ access to crucial humanitarian aid.
Notably, several aid organizations have previously announced a reduction in their assistance to needy households in Afghanistan due to budget constraints. Moreover, the forced deportation of Afghanistani immigrants from Pakistan has compounded the situation, leading to an increase in the number of people requiring humanitarian aid in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. These factors have contributed to a deepening crisis.
It is crucial to remember that the Taliban has faced significant challenges in effectively managing the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The group’s control over the region has been marred by instability and reported shortcomings, exacerbating the plight of the Afghanistani people in need.
As the winter season approached, the number of households in need increased due to the victims of the earthquake in Herat and the refugees expelled from Iran and Pakistan.
