Two Killed in Separate Incidents of Armed Violence in Kandahar

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Kandahar province report that two men were shot and killed in separate armed incidents in Kandahar city and the Arghandab district, underscoring growing insecurity in the region. In the first incident, which occurred around 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 15, armed assailants fatally shot a 25-year-old man in the Simano Bridge area of District 12 in Kandahar city. According to a local source who requested anonymity, the victim identified as Bilal Ahmad was targeted by the attackers who sought to steal his motorcycle. The perpetrators fled the scene immediately after the shooting and, to date, remain unidentified and at large.

In a separate episode, several sources confirmed that a 35-year-old man named Mohammad Nabi was gunned down near his residence in the Arghandab district on Monday evening. The attack reportedly occurred in the Luwar Khan area, within the pomegranate orchards of the Kalacha region. The motives behind the killing remain unclear, and no suspects have been apprehended. Despite the gravity of both incidents, Taliban security authorities in Kandahar have not issued any formal statements or commentaries regarding the attacks.

These killings have reignited concerns among residents, particularly as the Taliban continue to assert claims of having established nationwide security. Yet, the rising tide of violent crime including theft, targeted killings, and armed assaults in key provinces such as Kandahar suggests a far more troubling reality on the ground. Local populations increasingly question the credibility of Taliban assurances as insecurity deepens under their rule.
