RASC News Agency: Reformist and protesting Afghanistani women, continuing their demonstrations inside the country, have once again appealed to the international community to address the worsening plight of women in Afghanistan. Civil society organizations, Afghanistani journalists, and women activists have strongly criticized the global community’s silence in the face of Taliban oppression, describing it as a betrayal of human rights and dignity. Afghanistan is now the only country where women are systematically denied their fundamental rights, including access to education, employment, sports, and even the basic freedom to speak publicly. Over the past three years, the Taliban have enacted some of the harshest and most regressive decrees, exacerbating the already dire conditions for women and men alike.
In a resolution issued by civil society groups, they demanded urgent action from the international community and the United Nations to combat gender apartheid in Afghanistan. The resolution called for comprehensive support for Afghanistani women, increased diplomatic and economic pressure on the Taliban, and the immediate suspension of the group’s financial resources to curtail its repressive policies. Afghanistani women and girls leading the protests have issued a warning that, should their demands continue to be ignored, they will escalate their resistance through widespread demonstrations across the country, standing firm against all forms of injustice and tyranny.
Since their return to power, the Taliban have systematically stripped women of their rights, barring them from working in public offices, closing schools and universities to female students, and imposing severe restrictions on their daily lives. Despite widespread condemnation from Afghanistani citizens, religious scholars, Islamic nations, and various national and international organizations, the Taliban persist in enforcing their tribal and patriarchal ideologies under the guise of religion and Islamic law. Their actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for both domestic dissent and international rebuke.
