RASC News Agency: “Rebel News”, a Canadian outlet, has obtained documents revealing that Canada has sent millions of dollars to Afghanistan under Taliban control during the group’s three-year rule. These financial contributions have sparked significant debate, particularly given the Taliban’s oppressive policies on women’s rights. According to the report, Canada allocated over $367 million in aid to Afghanistan in 2023 alone. The Canadian government has emphasized that this assistance has been delivered without compromising its fundamental values.

A memorandum presented to Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s Minister of International Development, warned that ongoing financial support for Afghanistan under Taliban rule could trigger negative reactions from both the Canadian public and the media. The memo further noted that reducing aid programs would diminish Canada’s and its allies’ strategic interests in the region. The Taliban have offered no transparency regarding the allocation of these funds, while at the same time increasing financial burdens on the Afghanistani population through additional taxation. In 2022, Canada provided $143 million in humanitarian aid and an additional $70 million in development assistance to Afghanistan. However, the report suggests that this year’s aid may drop to just $25 million, reflecting a significant decrease from previous years.

Despite mounting pressure both domestically and internationally, “Rebel News” claims that the Canadian government continues to emphasize its commitment to helping the Afghanistani people. The report further alleges that Canada’s financial support to the Taliban has been largely influenced by the United States. The U.S., while portraying the Taliban as victors over the West, reportedly continues to funnel $40 million per week to the group, alongside contributions from Western allies, to strengthen the Taliban regime.
