RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar have reported the arrest of a former military officer by the Taliban in the province. According to these sources, the Taliban detained the former Director of Counter-Narcotics of the Takhar Police Command from Farkhar district early this morning Wednesday, July 24. The Taliban reportedly arrested him without any documented reason and took him into custody.
Sources indicate that the former officer was apprehended at his home and subsequently transferred to the 217 Omari Corps in Kunduz province. It is noted that the individual had been leading a normal civilian life following the collapse of the previous republican regime. The motivation behind this arrest remains unclear. Local Taliban officials in Takhar have not commented on the incident.
This comes just a day after the Taliban arrested another resident of Farkhar district and transferred him to the 217 Omari Corps. Recently, the Taliban also detained a commander of local uprisings in the same province. In the past two weeks, the Taliban have conducted widespread arbitrary arrests in Takhar. Sources claim that these arrests are primarily motivated by ethnic considerations, noting that many of those detained are of Tajik descent.
It has been three years since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, during which hundreds of Tajiks have been detained without cause or on fabricated charges, many of whom remain in Taliban custody. The Taliban have reportedly executed some of these detainees. Most of these arrests occur in predominantly Tajik regions such as Panjshir, Parwan, Takhar, Kapisa, and Badakhshan. The Taliban continue their arbitrary arrests and torture on a daily basis.
