Faiq Condemns Iran’s Police Treatment of Afghanistani Refugees as Contrary to International Norms

RASC News Agency: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan’s Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has condemned the treatment of Afghanistani refugees and migrants by Iranian police, describing it as a violation of internationally accepted principles and migration laws. In a message shared on the social media platform X on Wednesday, August 7, Faiq criticized the recent actions of Iranian police against Afghanistani migrants, calling them reprehensible and deserving of investigation.

He stated, “The conduct and behavior of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s police towards Afghanistani refugees and migrants, particularly those with legal documentation, are in direct violation of internationally accepted principles and migration laws.” Faiq further emphasized, “This inhumane and un-Islamic act by an Iranian police officer is deeply condemnable and must be pursued.”

He urged the people and government of Iran to take immediate actions to prevent and address such incidents. Recently, a video circulated on social media showing an Iranian police officer torturing an Afghanistani migrant. This incident has sparked widespread outrage among Afghanistani citizens online.

It is worth noting that in the three years since the Taliban’s rise to power, many Afghanistani citizens have fled to neighboring countries, particularly Iran, both legally and illegally, due to security and economic challenges. Furthermore, Iranian security forces recently detained 46 undocumented Afghanistani migrants in the Tehran suburb of Shahriar, a practice that reportedly continues.
