RASC News Agency: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is currently engaged in the construction and rehabilitation of 21 water supply projects across Afghanistan. According to a statement on UNICEF’s social media page, these projects are financially supported by Japan. UNICEF emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating, “Every child, whether at home, at school, visiting a doctor, or within their community, needs access to clean and safe water.”
The report specifies that these projects are primarily being implemented in rural areas of Afghanistan. It is noted that these rural regions have a greater need for sanitary water. Meanwhile, residents from various parts of the country have expressed their concerns about the lack of clean drinking water, reporting significant challenges in this regard.
Residents of central Afghanistan have frequently complained about water shortages and have repeatedly appealed to the government for assistance, yet their pleas have largely gone unanswered. Many regions across different provinces are in urgent need of potable water and have voiced their dissatisfaction over the scarcity of clean drinking water. Moreover, several doctors in the country have highlighted that one of the primary causes of various diseases nationwide is the lack of access to clean and safe drinking water.
In many parts of the country, people rely on water from rivers and springs located along public pathways, which are not adequately treated for cleanliness and safety. Doctors attribute the prevalence of seasonal illnesses such as diarrhea and cholera during the summer months to the lack of access to clean and sanitary water in various regions.
