RASC News Agency: Local sources from Taloqan, the capital of Takhar Province, report that Taliban members have arrested several women who were selling bread in the city. Sources told the media that the Taliban detained these women on the morning of Wednesday, June 12, from the Chawk area of Taloqan and that they remain in the group’s custody.
According to the sources, 15 women were arrested, with the Taliban accusing them of “moral corruption.”VReports claim that the women were beaten by Taliban forces during their arrest and were violently taken to an undisclosed location.VLocal sources describe that economic hardships have driven some women to sell bread on the streets of Taloqan. These women had previously reported harassment by the Taliban.
Since the Taliban’s takeover of the country, unemployment and poverty levels among citizens have risen significantly, disproportionately affecting households headed by women. Following their seizure of power, the Taliban have imposed increasing restrictions on the lives of women and girls, barring them from working in both governmental and non-governmental organizations.
