RASC News Agency: Rafaela Addis, the representative of the European Union in Afghanistan, announced the EU’s provision of €15 million in aid to Afghanistan to combat climate change. Addis made this announcement on Wednesday, May 1, in a message on X, stating that the aid agreement was signed by Petrus Oostbos, head of the EU’s Asian Relations section, during his visit to Afghanistan in collaboration with local EU partners.
The EU representative stated that Afghanistan, under Taliban rule, is considered the most vulnerable country to climate change and that Afghanistani women are particularly affected by these changes. Petrous Oostbos, who recently visited Afghanistan, said the organization allocated €15 million to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition among women, girls, and children in recent days.
The head of the EU’s Asian Relations section added that the organization has also provided €11.8 million in microloans for women entrepreneurs and another €17 million to support migrants. Additionally, the Taliban Ministry of Economy previously announced that the European Union had spent another €20 million on environmental protection in 250 Afghanistan villages.
Despite this aid, reports indicate that Afghanistan’s economic situation under Taliban rule remains fragile, and the number of people in need of humanitarian aid in the country continues to rise.
