RASC News Agency: The Afghanistan Journalists’ Center has voiced concerns about the recent directives from the Taliban regarding women’s roles in media, issued by the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, emphasizing the negative repercussions these restrictions will bring. The Center addressed this issue on Wednesday night, February 28th, highlighting the alarming nature of the Taliban’s guidelines, which consider the current coverage by female broadcasters unacceptable.

Sources disclosed that Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the acting head of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue, stated during a meeting with media officials that failure by female broadcasters to comply with the group’s prescribed veil could result in a complete ban on their work in media outlets. Hanafi presented an image of two veiled women to the media, with only their eyes visible, stressing that media presenters must adhere to such attire.

Expressing profound concern about the media landscape in the country, the Afghanistan Journalists’ Center emphasized that women currently confront severe work restrictions, anticipating that the issuance of such directives would further exacerbate negative consequences. The Center urged the Taliban to rescind media guidelines and permit journalists and media outlets to operate in alignment with universal media laws and rights.

Meanwhile, subsequent to their takeover of the country, the Taliban has imposed stringent restrictions on women’s roles in media, including facial coverage for presenters, among other limitations.
