RASC News Agency: A significant number of schoolgirls have expressed that the recent comments by the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education have left them profoundly disheartened, making them feel like “unwanted and isolated beings on this earth.” These sentiments surfaced following the minister’s statement in an interview, where he asserted that the issue of reopening schools for girls would remain suspended until further notice. The girls remarked that these words have not only shattered their hopes but have also deepened their sense of isolation. They fear that if the situation persists, they may be “driven to madness.”
It has now been three years since the Taliban seized power, yet they have failed to finalize any decision regarding the reopening of schools and universities for girls. Some of the female students shared that after three years under Taliban rule, they had hoped to return to school and university. However, the minister’s recent statements have transformed this hope into despair. They further added that after hearing these remarks, they are unable to foresee any clear future or predict how their lives will unfold. They feel trapped in a dire and isolating situation.
These schoolgirls are urgently pleading with the Taliban government to grant them the right to education and learning, envisioning a brighter future. Fatima, one of the students, stated: “When officials make such statements, we become extremely worried about our future, and we lose all hope.” According to Fatima, the girls long for the reopening of schools, but hearing such statements only intensifies their despair.
The Taliban have yet to make a final decision regarding the reopening of schools for girls. However, in a newly ratified law, the leader of the group has even declared women’s voices as “awrah” (indecent or shameful).
