RASC News Agency: Amnesty International has recently voiced its concern regarding the arrest of several women and girls by the Taliban in Kabul for not adhering to the group’s strict dress code, known as “bad hijab.” In a statement released on social media last night, January 5th, Amnesty International highlighted the suppression and arbitrary arrests of women by the Taliban as a clear violation of their freedom of movement and expression in Afghanistan.
Reports suggest that numerous women were apprehended last week in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of western Kabul under the pretext of not observing the Taliban’s required hijab. Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice Agents of the Taliban Group carried out these arrests. Audio recordings, which have been made available to the media, reveal that the Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice has instructed the Taliban to immediately detain anyone not wearing a hijab and release them in secure areas controlled by the group for a period of two to three days, with the guarantee of their parents.
Since assuming control of the country, the Taliban has imposed increasingly restrictive measures on the lives of women and girls, even the visibility of their faces in public. This oppressive action by the Taliban has sparked widespread condemnation. Earlier, Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the National Resistance Front, an opposition group to the Taliban, stated that the Taliban’s mistreatment and abduction of women are a clear indication of their imminent downfall. He emphasized that those who have shown tolerance and engaged with the Taliban bear responsibility for their actions.
