Afghanistani Women’s Coordination Body Labels Doha Meeting Participants as “Opportunistic Women”

RASC News Agency: The Afghanistani Women’s Coordination Body has labeled the participants in the United Nations’ side meeting with Afghanistani civil society in Doha as representatives aligned with the Taliban. The organization asserted that these participants do not represent Afghanistani women and have no affiliation with the country’s female population.

In a post on their X account, the organization described the United Nations’ meeting, which the UN claims was with Afghanistani civil society and women, as a “side meeting” lacking genuine representation of Afghanistani women. The Afghanistani Women’s Coordination Body condemned the United Nations for holding a side meeting under the guise of “meeting with Afghanistani civil society and women,” stating that 700 women’s rights activists have criticized the UN for this.

Following the conclusion of the third Doha meeting with the Taliban, a UN delegation led by Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, and several special representatives from various countries, held what the UN called a meeting with Afghanistani civil society and women on Monday, July 1. The Afghanistani Women’s Coordination Body asserts that the participants in this meeting were a group of “opportunistic women” who do not represent the women and civil society of Afghanistan.

Earlier reports indicated that eight individuals, including one man from Afghanistan, participated in the meeting with the UN, three of whom attended in person, while five joined remotely. The UN delegation led by Rosemary DiCarlo prevented the identities of these individuals from being disclosed through the media. Meanwhile, several prominent Afghanistani and international women figures declined the UN’s invitation to this meeting.

Additionally, numerous human rights activists, women’s movements, civil society groups, and protesting Afghanistani women have boycotted the meeting, claiming that the Doha talks amounted to “the world’s deal with the Taliban.”
