RASC News Agency: Sources from Bamyan Provincial University have confirmed the removal of the Jafari Jurisprudence Department from the Faculty of Sharia. The Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education executed this decision two weeks ago, resulting in the ousting of Mohammad Ibrahim Zaki, the head of the Jafari Jurisprudence Department. Furthermore, the department’s name underwent a transformation to the Jurisprudence and Law Department. This alteration signifies the Taliban’s anti-Shia stance, manifested by the eradication of this subject from the university curriculum in Bamyan province.
During the recent graduation ceremony at Bamyan University, the host abstained from using the name of the Jafari Jurisprudence Department while presenting certificates to its students. Instead, they simply referred to them as “jurisprudence” students. This terminological shift underscores the eradication of the Jafari Jurisprudence Department and the Taliban’s endeavor to erase its presence within the university. Established in 2016 under the Faculty of Sharia at Bamyan and Daykundi universities, the department has graduated numerous student cohorts.
However, the Taliban’s actions have led to the removal of this subject from the educational system in Bamyan province. Earlier, the Taliban’s minister of higher education categorically labeled all the people of Afghanistan as followers of the Hanafi religion, overlooking the significant number of citizens adhering to the Jafari religion.
Reports have surfaced, highlighting violations of rights against spiritual and Jafari religion followers since the Taliban’s takeover. These reports reveal that the Taliban has imposed restrictions on various Shia religious events and ceremonies within the country. Notably, there were recent constraints placed on religious ceremonies, specifically Ashura, across multiple provinces. The Taliban not only quelled these gatherings but also resorted to shooting at people, resulting in fatalities and injuries to several individuals.
