RASC News Agency: Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former envoy to Afghanistan, has raised a grave alarm over the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and the consequences of ignoring it. In a recent interview, he underscored the severe challenges Afghanistan is facing, struggling with deep-rooted problems that continue to escalate. The recently dismissed Pakistani representative, citing the border skirmishes between Pakistan and Afghanistan and the growing threat of ISIS, described Afghanistan as a “septic wound” festering within the region. He pointed out that Afghanistan is destabilizing its neighboring countries, and the lack of international focus on this issue is profoundly alarming.
Durrani further cautioned that, in the event Afghanistan remains isolated, there is a real risk of another September 11-style attack. He warned that without comprehensive engagement, Afghanistan could once again become the origin of an attack resembling the scale of 9/11. The Pakistani diplomat also condemned the Taliban’s governance, particularly criticizing their regressive policies on women’s rights, education, and employment. He urged for greater regional cooperation to address and resolve the multifaceted crisis in Afghanistan.
Durrani rejected any move to recognize the Taliban as Afghanistan’s legitimate rulers, labeling such actions as futile. He warned that if the international community does not exert substantial pressure on the Taliban, Afghanistan could spiral into an even greater crisis. Since their takeover of Afghanistan, the Taliban has offered sanctuary to numerous terrorist groups, extending its protection over various extremist factions. The group has openly supported and harbored entities like Al-Qaeda and TTP. The global community claims that Afghanistan has now turned into a terrorist haven, with multiple insurgent and extremist groups operating freely within its borders.
Durrani was recently relieved of his duties, with Pakistani authorities citing his poor performance as the primary reason for his dismissal.
