RASC News Agency: Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front (NRF), has likened the Taliban’s military presence in Panjshir to the Soviet occupation, asserting that the group is destined to meet a similar downfall. In a Saturday night interview, Massoud emphasized that the NRF, in collaboration with other anti-Taliban factions, is forging a formidable alliance to reclaim Afghanistan. He underscored that, much like the Soviets, the Taliban will face relentless resistance, suffer heavy casualties, and ultimately be driven out of Panjshir.
The resistance leader further affirmed that opposition forces, through both armed struggle and political maneuvering, remain steadfast in their mission to reclaim Afghanistan. “It is only a matter of time before we reclaim our homeland from the Taliban,” he declared. Massoud also highlighted the unwavering defiance of the Afghanistani people, their unshaken resolve, and the continuous efforts of the resistance over the past three years. He acknowledged that, while global political dynamics have delayed the sweeping change many had anticipated, the tide is inevitably turning. “A nation that refuses to accept humiliation will ultimately prevail,” he stated. “I have no doubt that sooner or later, we will witness the transformation we have long awaited.”
Following the Taliban’s resurgence, Massoud’s forces initially engaged in direct confrontations. However, after intense and costly battles in Panjshir in 2021 and 2022, the NRF recalibrated its strategy, shifting towards guerrilla warfare in urban centers. In January alone, NRF forces reportedly carried out 27 operations across ten Afghanistani provinces, killing 42 Taliban members and wounding 37 others. Concluding his remarks, Massoud issued a resolute warning: “The Taliban will not escape the fate that befell the Soviets.”
