Cash Assistance Distributed to Over Three Million Afghanistanis by the World Food Programme

RASC News Agency: The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that in the first four months of this year, it provided cash assistance to three and a half million Afghanistani citizens. According to a message released on Sunday, June 9, on the social media platform X, this aid has facilitated food procurement and strengthened local markets.

The WFP did not disclose further details about the amount of cash distributed. However, last Monday, the organization announced it requires $14.5 million over the next seven months to assist families in flood-affected areas of Afghanistan. According to a United Nations report, over 65,000 individuals in earthquake-affected areas under Taliban control have received aid so far.

Official statistics indicate that floods in the provinces of Baghlan, Badakhshan, and Takhar have affected over 60,000 people, destroyed nearly 8,000 homes, and displaced more than 5,000 families. Flooding and other natural disasters have significantly increased the demand for food and cash assistance across Afghanistan.

Additionally, since the Taliban’s takeover, unemployment and poverty have risen sharply, increasing the number of people in need of humanitarian aid.
