RASC: Human Rights Watch in its latest report about Afghanistan says that this country is still witnessing one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
This report published on Monday, May 15, and indicates that two of three of the Afghanistan population suffers from food insecurity.
The Human Rights Watch states that Afghanistan has largely disappeared from the media and says that the crisis in this country has imposed two vital but incompatible responsibilities on the shoulders of the United Nations.
According to Human Rights Watch, transferring humanitarian aid to the needy and putting pressure on the Taliban group to end the “terrible” violation of human rights are the two responsibilities imposed on the United Nations in Afghanistan.
It is stated in the report that the sudden stop of most of the aid from the international community following the domination of Afghanistan by the Taliban group and the increasingly repressive policies of this group against women, including bans on their education and work with the United Nations and non-governmental sectors, has worsened the situation in this country.
The human rights organization wrote: “These are difficult times for aid workers trying to adhere to both the humanitarian imperative to save lives and the principles of impartiality.”
The Human Rights Watch emphasized that the latest statement by the United Nations regarding the prohibition of women’s work by the Taliban group has created confusion in Afghanistan.
In the report, key agencies of the United Nations, including the World Food Program and the Children’s Protection Fund of this organization, are asked to have a firm line that the actions of the Taliban group are a violation of international human rights and the United Nations Charter.
This is not the first time that international institutions have warned of the worsening humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
Before this, the United Nations has warned many times about the expansion of the scope of poverty, food insecurity and lack of funds for continuing humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.
