RASC News Agency: A group of disabled individuals residing in Balkh has expressed their dissatisfaction with the unfavorable conditions they are living in, particularly as winter approaches. During a meeting organized by a private institution in Mazar-e-Sharif, the center of Balkh province, on Sunday, December 10th, these individuals highlighted their concerns and appealed for urgent assistance from relevant organizations.
The disabled community emphasized that they encounter numerous challenges on a daily basis, including economic hardships, limited employment opportunities, inadequate access to education and healthcare services, and a lack of humanitarian aid. In response, officials in Balkh province assured that they are actively working towards addressing these issues and pledged their commitment to supporting the disabled population, especially during the harsh winter months. Additionally, local Taliban officials in Balkh expressed their efforts to secure aid from humanitarian organizations for the benefit of disabled individuals.
It is important to note that out of the estimated 13,000 disabled individuals in Balkh province, only 3,500 have been officially identified and are currently receiving monthly salaries. This statistic highlights the significant number of Afghanistani citizens who have suffered disabilities as a result of the prolonged war, with many having lost limbs or other body parts.
The disabled community in Afghanistan faces a multitude of obstacles, and their dissatisfaction with the lack of attention from the authorities, spanning across different governments, including the Taliban regime, has been voiced.
