RASC News Agency: The Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan has issued a formal statement calling on the Islamic Republic of Iran to reconsider its policy of deporting Afghanistani migrants, urging Tehran to take into account the critical humanitarian and security conditions currently prevailing in Afghanistan. While expressing appreciation for Iran’s decades-long hospitality toward millions of displaced Afghanistani citizens, the Council warned that, given Afghanistan’s current state of instability, the forced return of migrants could result in severe humanitarian and security repercussions.
According to the statement, Afghanistan has faced a sharp decline in human rights, economic stability, and internal security since the Taliban’s return to power. Many Afghanistani migrants living in Iran are enduring extreme socio-economic hardship, with no viable prospect for a safe, dignified, and sustainable return to their homeland. The Council further stressed the moral and legal responsibility of the international community particularly institutions such as the United Nations to address the Afghanistan’s crisis in a coordinated and humane manner. It urged Iranian authorities to uphold humanitarian principles and Islamic values by allowing migrants to remain under more favorable and humane conditions.
The statement concluded with a call for the preservation of historical and amicable ties between neighboring nations, noting that the treatment of migrants would serve as a lasting legacy in the long-standing relationship between the peoples of Iran and Afghanistan. It is noteworthy that in recent decades, millions of Afghanistani nationals have taken refuge in Iran, with many accessing educational, healthcare, and social services throughout their stay.
