RASC News Agency: Residents of Kabul are voicing growing alarm over a surge in criminal activities, including armed robberies, home invasions, and violent assaults, in various parts of the city. Amid rising insecurity, many citizens highlight a disturbing pattern most of these crimes occur within close proximity to Taliban-controlled security checkpoints, fueling widespread suspicions of complicity within the ranks of the ruling group. Eyewitness reports indicate that in the past month alone, Kabul has witnessed a dramatic increase in theft, homicide, and street muggings, leaving many residents fearful for their safety. Several citizens accuse the Taliban administration of gross negligence, arguing that their failure to uphold law and order has emboldened criminals.
One resident recounted the brazen nature of these crimes:
“Every night, thefts take place in specific areas with alarming precision, executed swiftly and without resistance. Just last week, near Shahid Square in Dasht-e-Barchi merely 50 meters from a Taliban security post six houses on a single street were looted in a single night. Armed robbers ransacked homes for hours, seizing everything mobile phones, cash, computers, gold jewelry without the slightest interference from security forces.” In West Kabul, accusations against the Taliban go beyond negligence residents allege active collaboration between the ruling group and criminal networks. A local resident remarked: “How do you explain this? Thieves operated freely for nearly two hours just steps away from a Taliban security post, then vanished without a trace. There is only one logical explanation these criminals enjoy direct protection or tacit approval from the authorities.”
In Dasht-e-Barchi, the security situation continues to deteriorate. Reports confirm that a large grocery store was looted overnight, while street muggings and phone snatchings have become a nightly occurrence. Meanwhile, sources in Arzan Qemat, within Kabul’s 12th district, revealed that two days ago, a young man was stabbed to death by robbers in Block Two, who then stole his mobile phones. Earlier this month, another chilling incident unfolded when a currency exchange dealer was murdered in Qasaba, and his cash was stolen in broad daylight.
Despite the Taliban’s relentless assertions that they have restored nationwide security, Kabul’s reality tells a different story. Crime rates continue to skyrocket, and sporadic bombings and violent assaults persist, further undermining public confidence in the Taliban’s ability to govern. As frustration mounts, many residents now view the Taliban’s rule as synonymous with lawlessness, impunity, and state-sponsored corruption a regime that, instead of safeguarding its people, appears complicit in their suffering.
