RASC News Agency: Amidst the escalating crises in the country and the escalating requirements for humanitarian support, there has been a recent announcement by the global program that two million vulnerable individuals in Afghanistan from its aid has been excluded distribution program, citing budget cuts. The World Food Program (WFP) has also decided to reduce its provision of food assistance to an additional two million vulnerable individuals in Afghanistan starting in September.
As per the organization’s statement, a staggering ten million tons of humanitarian aid has been eliminated from their program this year. The World Food Program further added that the severe budget shortage has compelled them to restrict future assistance to only three million tons for emergency humanitarian aid. The Director of the WFP’s Afghanistan division expressed, “In the face of alarming levels of hunger and malnutrition, we are confronted with the difficult decision of choosing between the hungry and those on the brink of starvation. Countless families are struggling to secure their next meal.”
He underscored the fact that with limited resources at their disposal, it is simply impossible to aid and address the needs of all those suffering from extreme poverty. Furthermore, in addition to the World Food Program, several other organizations have announced cutbacks in their aid to vulnerable families due to severe budget constraints. It is crucial to highlight that Afghanistan, a country grappling with severe economic and social crises, has its population heavily reliant on humanitarian assistance. The reduction in global humanitarian aid for the vulnerable in Afghanistan, as reported, will undoubtedly lead to yet another humanitarian crisis.
