RASC News Agency: Local sources have reported the arrest of a former bodyguard of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the former Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, by the Taliban in Panjshir. According to these sources, the Taliban detained the ex-military officer on Friday, January 17, in the village of Tankho in the Dara district and transferred him to an undisclosed location. The detained individual, identified as Mujib, had reportedly been unemployed for over a year. The Taliban have not yet commented on the arrest. Since taking control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have systematically targeted former Tajik military personnel for detention, with numerous reports of extrajudicial killings.
In a related incident last December, a former bodyguard of ex-President Ashraf Ghani, named Rahimdil Hanafi, tragically ended his life in Kabul after his wife was arrested. Hanafi, originally from the Parandi Valley in the Bazarak district of Panjshir, had been residing in Kabul at the time of the incident. Following the Taliban’s seizure of power in Afghanistan, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah pledged allegiance to the group and chose to remain in the country. Alongside Hamid Karzai, he actively lobbied for international recognition of the Taliban. For two decades, Abdullah held power under the banner of representing the Tajik people, but in the end, he betrayed their aspirations, surrendering them to the forces of ethnic fascism.
Not only did he submit to the Taliban, but he also forged close personal ties with the group’s leaders. It is worth noting that many Tajik military personnel primarily from Panjshir who have been arrested by the Taliban in recent years, stayed in Kabul and Panjshir based on Abdullah’s false assurances, choosing not to flee the country.
