RASC News Agency: The Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that two individuals were publicly whipped in the district of Maqur, Ghazni province, on charges of “immorality.” According to a statement from the court, these individuals were punished on Tuesday, October 1, based on a verdict from the district’s primary court. The Taliban’s Supreme Court stated that each individual received 39 lashes and was also sentenced to two years of imprisonment.
This incident highlights a troubling trend, as the Taliban have repeatedly carried out public floggings since their return to power in Afghanistan. Many of these punishments have occurred without due process, involving arbitrary arrests, torture, and detentions without credible evidence or confessions. Over the past three years, hundreds of individuals have faced lashings, while thousands have been detained and tortured. According to Taliban reports, more than a thousand individuals are currently imprisoned with sentences including amputation, alongside many others facing long-term imprisonment. The group has engaged in numerous arbitrary arrests based on various accusations.
Furthermore, the Taliban executed five individuals in front of hundreds of spectators. International human rights organizations denounce such corporal punishments and executions as violations of international law and human dignity, calling for an immediate cessation of these practices. However, the Taliban have disregarded these appeals and continue actions deemed unacceptable by the global community and the people of Afghanistan. The group has also imposed severe restrictions on women and the general population, leading to widespread hardship and isolating the Afghanistani people.
