RASC News Agency: Sources from Kandahar report that the Taliban have publicly flogged 11 individuals accused of sodomy, adultery, and theft in the province. In a statement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court indicated that two of the individuals received 25 lashes and were sentenced to one year in prison, while three others received 30 lashes and the same prison sentence.
The statement further detailed that four individuals were given 25 lashes and sentenced to two years in prison, and three others were given 30 lashes and sentenced to three years in prison. During their nearly three-year rule, the Taliban have publicly flogged hundreds of individuals for various offenses.
In the past 10 days alone, nearly 100 people have been publicly flogged by the Taliban across various provinces. Human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the United Nations, have condemned these actions as violations of human rights standards. Notably, just last week, the Taliban flogged over 60 individuals in Sar-e-Pol Province, and two in Panjshir Province were flogged after a year-long pursuit for running away from home.
Despite numerous statements from human rights organizations, the Taliban continue their practice of public flogging. Sources indicate that the Taliban have flogged and publicly humiliated individuals in Panjshir, Logar, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul, Kandahar, Kunduz, Herat, Jowzjan, and Sar-e-Pol provinces for various alleged offenses.
Previously, religious scholars have also criticized the Taliban’s actions as being contrary to the principles of Islamic law and the spirit of the religion.
