RASC: Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights for Afghanistan, has requested the release of Mr. Wisa as soon as possible.

He said that several months have passed since the unjust and unjustified arrest of Matiullah Wisa, an education activist.

In a tweet, without mentioning the name of the Taliban group, Mr. Bennett called his arrest an arbitrary and unjustifiable act and demanded the immediate release of Mr. Wisa.

The intelligence of the Taliban group arrested Matiullah Wisa, the head of the Rah Qalam organization and an activist in the field of girls’ education, in the Kabul in the beginning of month of (Hamal) this year.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban group, stated that the reason for Mr. Wisa’s arrest by the group’s intelligence was “arbitrary activities and encouraging people to engage in anti-government activities” and said that this is the reason why he was imprisoned by this group.

Rah Qalam Institution has stated that Mr. Wisa was not connected with any political organization, has no political agenda and is not a threat to anyone.

Matiullah Wisa, the founder of Rah Qalam Institute, has founded dozens of home schools since the beginning of his activity in the field of education. He has helped by providing education for girls who did not have access to educational facilities.

Mr. Wisa’s arrest at that time was accompanied by widespread domestic and international reactions.

Various institutions, including the United Nations Human Rights Council, the World Observatory of Human Rights, Amnesty International, the European Union, the United States, and a number of other countries, have requested the immediate release of Matiullah Wisa from the Taliban group, but these requests have not been heeded yet.
