RASC News Agency: Local sources from Helmand province report that unidentified gunmen have killed a high-ranking former government military officer in the region. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 5, in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital.
The victim, identified as Colonel Torjan, had previously served as the provincial security chief and the police commander of Khanashin district during the former government. Following the attack, Colonel Torjan was initially wounded and later succumbed to his injuries after being transferred to the Emergency Hospital.
The Taliban have yet to comment on this incident. This event is part of a continuing pattern of mysterious killings, arrests, and torture of former military personnel by “unidentified gunmen.” Additionally, reports indicate that the Taliban recently arrested a former military officer from Panjshir province in Herat after he was deported from Iran.
These reports of arrests and targeted attacks on former government soldiers by the Taliban persist despite the group’s leader having declared a general amnesty following their takeover of the country. Retaliatory actions by the Taliban, however, continue unabated.
