RASC: Following the publication of a report on the situation of women in the prisons of the Taliban group, the women’s movement coalition demanded the attention of the United Nations to this situation.
The Coalition of Women’s Protest Movements, in a statement they published on Tuesday, May 23, said that what is happening to women in the prisons of the Taliban group is a violation of human rights and gender-based violence.
The declaration states: “The Coalition of Afghan Women’s Protest Movements is deeply concerned about the terrible conditions that female prisoners are facing in the prisons of the Taliban group in Jawzjan, Faryab and Samangan provinces.”
They say that the Taliban group should be held accountable for their behavior towards women.
They have also asked the UN Human Rights Council to look into the “shocking” findings of this newspaper and to seriously follow up on this matter.
The coalition added: “Quick and responsive action to protect the rights, dignity and well-being of Afghan women, especially women who are tortured and raped in Taliban prisons, should be the priority of the international community.”
