RASC News Agency: Afghanistan’s ambassador to Tajikistan, Zahir Aghbar, has condemned the recent attack on Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister of Refugees, denouncing it as a terrorist act. In a statement released on Wednesday, Aghbar expressed his dismay at the incident, stating, “The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Tajikistan strongly condemns the explosion targeting Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani as a deplorable act of terrorism.”
The ambassador lamented Afghanistan’s ongoing plight, remarking, “Afghanistan has long been ensnared in a vicious cycle of wars, violence, and betrayals, with its people paying the ultimate price.” Addressing the Taliban, Aghbar urged a departure from divisive policies, stating, “It is time to abandon misogyny and extremist ideologies. Let us take meaningful steps toward unity and reconciliation to safeguard and rebuild our nation.” Shortly after posting the message, Aghbar removed the statement and replaced it with a succinct note, asserting, “Our values are deeply rooted in religious and humanitarian principles, and these values will endure.”
Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani was killed in a Kabul explosion on Wednesday afternoon, an event that has sparked varied reactions. Within the Taliban ranks, his assassination was met with grief. Anas Haqqani, a senior Taliban member, described the incident as a “great loss” for the group, while Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid attributed the attack to ISIS, acknowledging the loss of a prominent leader. However, many Afghanistani citizens welcomed the news, calling Haqqani a “murderer” and a “notorious terrorist.” The incident has highlighted the deep divisions within Afghanistan and the challenges facing the Taliban in securing stability.
