RASC News Agency: Local sources from Konar province have reported that the Taliban recently detained a Salafi religious scholar in the province. Sources informed the media on Thursday, Mar 28th, that the detained religious scholar, identified as Assadullah Masrour, has been held in the Taliban’s prison in Konar for the past month.

Although Assadullah Masrour was arrested by the Taliban on charges of collaboration with ISIS, sources claim that the Taliban imprisoned him due to his “Salafism.” According to sources, this religious scholar has no affiliation with the ISIS group. The Taliban have not yet commented on this matter.

Reports indicate that the Taliban oppose Salafists, and since their resurgence, dozens of Salafi clerics have been killed by “unidentified gunmen” in various parts of the country. In one instance, according to sources, Taliban members recently shot a young man in the Hesa-e Duwum Kohistan district of Kapisa province for holding Salafist beliefs.
