Parwan Doctor Remains in Taliban Custody for Eight Months

RASC News Agency: Local sources in Parwan province report that Dr. Mohammad Sharif Ayoubi, a respected physician, has been held in Taliban custody for eight months without clear justification. Dr. Ayoubi was reportedly arrested on March 13, 2023, from his pharmacy in the Gulbahar area of Jabal al-Saraj district. Following his detention, he was initially transferred to the Taliban’s Directorate 40 of Intelligence. He was later moved to Pul-e-Charkhi Prison and subsequently to Bagram Prison.

Despite repeated inquiries, the Taliban have not provided any official explanation for his detention. One source alleges that the Taliban accused Dr. Ayoubi of treating a wounded member of the National Resistance Front (NRF), a claim his family vehemently denies. According to his relatives, Dr. Ayoubi has no affiliations with any political or military groups, including the NRF. Sources further reveal that a Taliban court sentenced Dr. Ayoubi to a 10-month prison term. However, despite this official ruling, he continues to endure biweekly interrogations and torture by Taliban intelligence forces.

Reports indicate that Dr. Ayoubi has suffered significant injuries, including severe damage to his shoulder, raising grave concerns about his health and safety. His family remains deeply worried about his deteriorating condition. A resident of Isa Khel village in Jabal al-Saraj district, Dr. Ayoubi was detained just one day before he was scheduled to take his medical specialization examination. The Taliban have yet to comment on the matter.

This case is not an isolated incident. Last year, another physician from Parwan reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during Taliban-inflicted torture. Over the past three years, the Taliban have detained and tortured hundreds of individuals, often based on unsubstantiated accusations. Many detainees have suffered severe injuries, and some have tragically lost their lives due to inhumane treatment while in custody.
