RASC News Agency: Local sources in Takhar province have reported that the Taliban group’s municipality has confiscated 259 vendor booths from Taleqan city, the provincial center. These booths have been relocated to an undisclosed location by the Taliban group. According to vendors whose booths were seized by the Taliban municipality eight months ago, they had paid 25,000 Kabuli rupees, the current Afghanistan currency, to the group for the privilege of selling in each booth. Now, the vendors are urging the local authorities to exert pressure on the Taliban municipality to return their booths. If the Taliban municipality refuses to allow the operation of these booths, the vendors demand compensation of 6,475,000 Kabuli rupees.
In addition to the confiscation of vendor booths, the Taliban group has also cut down numerous plantain trees in Takhar province. This action was justified by the group as part of the development of the Takhar-Badakhshan highway, which spans three kilometers. However, locals have expressed their discontent, stating that the removal of these trees has marred the beauty of the area. It has been alleged that the Taliban, with the assistance of squatters, carried out the tree-cutting operation during the past few nights. The timber from these felled trees was reportedly sold to a wood seller for 1,099,000 Kabuli rupees, the current Afghanistan currency.
Despite these incidents, the Taliban authorities in Takhar province have remained silent regarding the confiscation of vendor booths and the destruction of plantain trees. It is worth noting that the Taliban’s aggressive behavior towards civilians has escalated, despite their dire economic circumstances.
