RASC News Agency: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has condemned the Taliban for persistently violating fundamental human rights and continuing to perpetrate violence across the country. As Afghanistan enters a new academic year, UNAMA expressed “deep dismay” over the Taliban’s ongoing ban on girls’ education, now in its fourth consecutive year. The organization described the situation as a dark chapter in Afghanistan’s history, where girls are being systematically stripped of their future. Roza Otunbayeva, head of UNAMA, denounced the Taliban for disregarding the will of the Afghanistani people and warned that their policies are pushing the country further into turmoil. In a statement released on Wednesday, March 26, she emphasized that the prohibition of girls’ education not only deprives millions of their right to learn but also inflicts long-term damage on the nation’s peace, stability, and economic future.
UNAMA further reported that Taliban fighters continue to commit acts of arbitrary violence in various provinces, with civilians bearing the brunt of these abuses. The mission also warned that the Taliban’s oppressive policies will exacerbate Afghanistan’s already dire human rights crisis and deepen its humanitarian and economic collapse. Otunbayeva stressed that the continued closure of girls’ schools beyond the sixth grade remains a key factor behind Afghanistan’s growing international isolation and a major roadblock to national recovery. UNAMA underscored that the Taliban have failed to provide security, eradicate poverty, or create employment opportunities instead, their rule has intensified violence, deepened instability, and worsened socio-economic conditions.
Reiterating its call for the immediate and unconditional repeal of the education ban, UNAMA warned that the Taliban’s relentless restrictions are dismantling Afghanistan’s prospects for recovery and international reintegration. However, despite mounting domestic and international pressure, the Taliban have continuously ignored both UNAMA’s appeals and the cries of the Afghanistani people.
