RASC News Agency: The recent announcement by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) reveals that over 48,000 individuals affected by the earthquake in the Zinda Jan district of Herat province have been granted access to healthcare. UNICEF made this declaration on Tuesday, November 14th, through a social media message. In addition to providing healthcare, the organization has also established tents and container offices for 13 health centers that were impacted by the disaster.
Despite previous commitments from various international aid agencies to offer health services and assistance to the earthquake victims in Herat province, UNICEF has taken the initiative to address the urgent healthcare needs of the affected population. The earthquake, which occurred on October 7th, resulted in the loss of approximately 2,500 lives and left thousands injured. The United Nations has reported that the consecutive earthquakes caused the complete destruction of more than 3,000 houses, while nearly 2,000 others were severely damaged. The Zindajan district in Herat province, the epicenter of these earthquakes, suffered the most significant devastation.
However, it is important to note that despite the passage of over a month since the earthquakes, some victims in Herat province continue to express dissatisfaction with the unequal distribution of humanitarian aid. They argue that the assistance provided thus far is insufficient.
Efforts must be made to ensure that aid reaches all those in need and that it is distributed fairly among the affected population. The provision of healthcare by UNICEF is a commendable step towards addressing the immediate needs of the earthquake victims. However, additional support and assistance are required to aid in their recovery and rebuilding process.
