RASC News Agency: Amidst the ongoing wave of targeted killings in various provinces of the country, recent reports from local sources in Herat have shed light on the tragic incident involving the murder of a prominent religious scholar within the region. It has been reliably reported that on the night of Sunday, October 22, unidentified armed individuals forcefully abducted Eid Mohammad Etimadi, a well-respected figure in religious circles, from his residence before callously taking his life.

These reports further reveal that the brutal assassination of the religious scholar occurred in the Khoshroad area of Injil, situated in the province of Herat. Despite the lack of concrete information regarding the motives behind this heinous act, the perpetrators managed to elude capture, leaving authorities perplexed and the community gripped with fear.

Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that during the two-year reign of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the country has witnessed a concerning surge in targeted and enigmatic murders. This distressing trend has instilled a sense of unease and apprehension among the population. It is worth noting that only five months ago, another religious scholar fell victim to a fatal shooting by unknown gunmen in the Firouzkoh district, the heart of Ghor.

The absence of a well-defined legal framework within the Taliban’s governing system has contributed to the rise in criminal activities plaguing the nation. This vacuum in the rule of law has allowed for the proliferation of violent acts and made it increasingly challenging to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.

Most disconcertingly, the killings of Afghanistani citizens, including former government soldiers and women participating in protests, remain shrouded in mystery, with the perpetrators still unidentified. Compounding these grave concerns, the Taliban continues to incarcerate and detain individuals associated with the National Resistant Front and other groups opposing their authority within the country.
