RASC News Agency: Sources have informed the media that the Taliban group prevented four women from Kabul from traveling to attend the Kosovo Courage Award ceremony. Sources stated that the Taliban hindered these women from participating in the Kosovo International Women, Peace, and Security Conference at Kabul International Airport.
Sources added that these women were supposed to travel to Kosovo to receive the Courage Medal from the Kosovo presidency. This Courage Medal was awarded by the Kosovo presidency on Monday, April 15th, to some Afghanistani activists. The Taliban group has not yet clarified the reason for prohibiting these women from traveling to Kosovo.
Zahra Nader, the managing editor of Women’s Times living abroad, confirmed in her speech at this conference that the Taliban had prevented her colleagues from traveling. Ms. Nader said, “Some Afghanistani women who were invited to this conference are not here today because the Taliban did not allow them to travel without a male guardian. They can only travel when accompanied by a man.”
Sources have identified the invitees as Adela Yadgar, a staff member of the Afghanistani Women’s Institute, Mahnaz Baloch, a staff member of the International Organization for Migration, Neginah Ahmadi, a staff member of the Capacity and Knowledge Institute, and Farzanah Yaqoubi, a staff member of the Sustainable Assistance Organization in Afghanistan.
Sources added that men who were invited to this conference were allowed to travel, but women faced Taliban prohibition before their flight. Earlier, the Taliban group had prevented some female students from traveling to the United Arab Emirates for educational purposes.
The Taliban group has banned the education of girls beyond the sixth grade. Additionally, they have restricted women’s employment in many sectors.
