RASC News Agency: The escalating reports of arrests and imprisonments carried out by the Taliban across Afghanistan have caught the attention of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). The situation has become so dire that UNAMA has recently declared that the total number of individuals held captive in Taliban prisons has now exceeded an alarming figure of 17,000.
In the most recent report released by the UNAMA Human Rights Office on Monday, October 23rd, a comprehensive overview of the human rights situation in Afghanistan between July and September of this year was unveiled. This report sheds light on the harrowing conditions faced by detainees within Taliban prisons.
UNAMA has raised grave concerns regarding the management of these prisons, as the sheer number of detainees has overwhelmed the limited resources available. As a result, the minimum standards required for the proper treatment of prisoners, such as the provision of adequate food and essential healthcare, are severely lacking.
Disturbing accounts from inside Taliban prisons have depicted a flagrant violation of human rights. Detainees are subjected to humiliation, abuse, torture, and beatings on a regular basis. Shockingly, in some instances, these extreme practices have tragically resulted in fatalities. Just last week, a young detainee tragically lost his life due to the merciless torture inflicted upon him during his one and a half years of captivity in a Taliban prison.
It is crucial to highlight that ever since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, they have been conducting daily arrests of individuals across various provinces within the country. These arrests are occurring for both known and unknown reasons, leaving their families and loved ones deeply worried about the uncertain fate that awaits these captives.
