RASC News Agency: Sima Bahus, the executive director of the United Nations Women’s Department, asked the world to use all means to put pressure on the Taliban group at the meeting of the Security Council of this organization.
She added that half of Afghanistani women say that the Taliban group should not be recognized “at all”.
The meeting of the United Nations Security Council regarding Afghanistan was held on Tuesday, September 26 at the headquarters of this organization in New York.
By citing a number of cases of violation of women’s rights, including bans on employment, education and social, economic and political activities of Afghanistani women, she said that the current situation causes an increase in gender violence.
This UN official emphasized that all means should be used to bring Afghanistani women out of the darkness.
The bad mental and emotional condition of about 90% of Afghanistani women is caused by the current situation of the country, among other things that Bahus pointed out.
Quoting Afghanistani women, she said that they are in “prisons” in the society and they are also prisoners in their homes.
According to the words of the executive director of the United Nations Women’s Department, restriction in family relations is another issue that women have been facing since two years ago.
Only about 22% of women said that they rarely visit their families, many others said that their relationships with family and society have decreased a lot.
Increasing restrictions, cases of underage marriage, gender violence, living in fear and reducing women’s job security are among the other issues that Afghanistani women are facing, according to this UN official.
Referring to the current issues and increasing restrictions of the Taliban group on women, Bahus said that about 46 percent of Afghanistani women said that the government of the Taliban group should not be recognized “in any way” and about 50 percent said that they agree with it if the restrictions are removed and women’s rights are ensured.
The executive director of the United Nations Women’s Department also criticized the international community for not listening to the voices of women in Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban group.
“We sometimes ignore the voices of Afghanistani women, and this neglect also has negative effects on the future of Afghanistan,” said Bahus.
