RASC News Agency: As the deadline set by the Pakistani government for illegal Afghanistani refugees to leave the country draws near, the United States Department of State has weighed in on the situation, urging neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, to extend their support to Afghanistani refugees.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 19th, the US Department of State highlighted the importance of upholding commitments towards refugee treatment, specifically addressing Afghanistan’s neighboring nations.
“We strongly urge neighboring countries of Afghanistan, including Pakistan, to provide refuge for Afghans seeking international support and to collaborate with international humanitarian organizations in delivering essential humanitarian aid,” the statement read.
This development comes in the wake of Pakistan’s announcement, made roughly a month ago, regarding the expulsion of Afghanistani immigrants who have entered the country illegally, with a deadline set for November 1st.
The Pakistani government has emphasized the involvement of Afghanistani refugees in several suicide attacks that have occurred within the country. However, the decision to expel Afghanistani refugees has been met with opposition from various countries worldwide, with the United States among those urging Pakistan to reconsider.
It is worth noting that Since the Taliban’s rise to power, there has been a surge in the number of Afghanistani refugees seeking safety in neighboring countries. Pakistan, with its shared border and historical ties to Afghanistan, has become a key destination for many fleeing Afghanistani. Among these refugees, a significant portion is composed of young individuals who fear persecution or lack opportunities in their war-torn homeland.
