RASC News Agency: Based on local sources, it has been reported that two significant seismic earthquake occurred in northern Afghanistan on the morning of Friday, October 13. These earthquakes, with magnitudes of 4.9 and 4.7 respectfully, have been confirmed by the US Geological Survey.
The initial earthquake was recorded south of Baghlan, and the subsequent seismic activity was centered in Pul-e-Khomri, the provincial center, as stated by the US Geological Survey. According to the US Geological Survey website, the first earthquake occurred at approximately 04:30 am, followed by the second one at 05:40 am. Currently, there is no information available regarding any damages or casualties caused by these earthquakes. However, over the past week, the western region of the country has experienced a series of strong and mild earthquakes, resulting in significant human and financial losses.
On Saturday, October 7, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Herat province in western Afghanistan, causing extensive destruction. Despite several days having passed since the earthquake, reports indicate that individuals remain trapped under debris. Due to the prediction of severe aftershocks, residents of Herat have been evacuated to safer areas. Criticism has been levied against the slow initiation of rescue operations for those trapped under rubble, with a significant proportion of the victims being women and children, according to a UNICEF report.
Humanitarian aid organizations have also reported that female survivors of the earthquake are experiencing nerve shock and panic.
